I realize it’s been a while since I last touched base with y’all, and for that, I apologize. Things have been crazy around the Saddletramp homestead.
Late last month, my 93-year-old mother-in-law was diagnosed with colon cancer, and it had spread to her liver. Rather than go through the agony of chemo and other treatments, she opted not to treat it and let nature run its course.
The doctor told me at the time she could last six months. She didn’t last six weeks, let alone six months. She was put into home hospice care, so my wife and I tended to her with help from the Hospice House, who were very good to her and us.
She fell into a coma on September 10 and passed away at 8:30 a.m. September 12th. As you can imagine, we have been very busy dealing with her passing and final affairs, which took priority over everything else.
Again, I apologize for not touching base last week. We were extremely busy.
However, I am happy to announce that I have completed the final first draft of a short story that will be part of a Halloween anthology set to be released in early October.
The story is called “Dreamweavers,” about a lawyer who doesn’t realize he has been in a coma for seven years. It was somewhat inspired by “Life on Mars,” but it has a twist. Sorry, spoilers… You can, however, read a small sample of the story on my website here. I’ll have more on the collection as time goes on.
I’m sorry to cut this so short. I wanted to update you all about what is happening here and let you know I haven’t forgotten about you.
Well, that’s about it for this week. Thank you for taking the time to read this short update. I appreciate all of you more than you know. So, until next time, happy trails! Between now and next week, take some time off, snuggle up with a good read or two — preferably mine — and stay warm and safe.
While you’re at it, be sure to follow me on Twitter, Facebook, Bluesky, Reddit, YouTube, TikTok, Spoutible, Pinterest, and Mastodon. And don’t forget to follow me on Amazon so you can get updated when something gets published!
All my best!
